Chicken Momo is one of the most famous street food among most of the Indians. Chicken Momo is the minced chicken filled dumplings served with hot and spicy chutney. Chicken Momo is available in restaurants, roadside eateries, food carts etc. Momos are loved by people of every age because it is simple and tasty. In this blog I will be sharing the recipe of chicken momo that I follow to make some delicious mouthwatering momos.
Preparation Time: 30 minutes
Cooking Time: 30 minutes
Serves: 12-16 momos
Course: Snacks/ Starters
Cuisine: Nepali
Ingredients:
Minced Chicken 250g
Butter/ Oil 2 tsp
Finely Chopped Onions 1/2 cup
Finely Chopped Ginger 1 tbsp
Black Pepper Powder 2 tsp
Chopped Green Spring Onions 1/2 cup
Chopped Corriander Leaves 1/4 cup
Salt to Taste
Plain Flour 1 cup
Water As Required
Directions:
Momo Dough:
- Take the flour in a bowl, add 1/2 tsp of salt and knead a semi hard dough using water. Gradually add the water to avoid too soft dough. Once the dough is kneaded cover it with a damp cloth and keep it aside to rest for sometime.
Momo Filling:
- Take the minced chicken in a bowl. Add the chopped onion, ginger, spring onions, black pepper powder, butter/oil , corriander leaves, salt to taste and mix till well incorporated. Keep the filling aside.
Making the Momo:
- Equally divide the momo dough into small portions. Roll it on your palm to get mini balls.
- Dust your worktop with some flour and roll out the dough balls into round sheets. Keep them aside till all dough balls are rolled into sheets. I rolled out thin sheet of 3 inch radius.
- To fill the momos, place the sheets on your palm and put 1 tbsp of the momo filling. Apply water to the edge of the sheet. Now bring the edges of the sheet together and stick making pleats.
- Meanwhile, heat water in the steamer or momo steamer. One can even use the Idli steamer to steam the momos. If you don’t have a steamer, simply boil 2 liters of water in a deep pot.
- After all the momos are filled, brush the steamer plate with some oil and place the momos over it and steam at high heat for 15 minutes. If you don’t have any kind of steamer then put the momos in the rolling boiling water and cook for 10-15 minutes then strain out the momos using a strainer or seive.
I got about 16 mini momos. Serve the momos hot with any hot and spicy or hot and sweet chutney of your choice.
