Raita is one the famous summer side dish in Indian Cuisine. It is a condiment made out of fresh yogurt with fruits, veggies, boondi seasoned with spices. In this blog I’ll be sharing the recipe of my favorite Boondi Raita which I learnt from my maa. We’ve been following this recipe since long.

Preparation Time: 15-20 Minutes
Assembling Time: 5 minutes
Serves: 4
Course: Side Dish
Cuisine: South Asian

Ingredients:
Plain Yogurt (Thick) 3 cups
Boondi 1 1/2 cups
Cumin Powder 1 1/2 tsp
Black Pepper Powder 1/2 tsp
Red Chili Powder 1 tsp
Black Salt to taste
Green Chili (Optional) 1
Sugar (Optional) 1/4 cup
Chopped Corriander/ Mint Leaves 1/4 cup
Water as required

Directions:

  1. In a deep bowl pour the yogurt, add 1/4 cup of water and sugar. Whisk till sugar dissolves and yogurt becomes lumpfree.
  2. To the yogurt, add the Boondi and mix well. Keep it aside for 15-20 minutes or till boondi gets soaked and becomes soft.
  3. Once the boondi gets soft its time to season the raita. Add black salt, cumin powder, black pepper powder, red chili powder and chopped green chili. Mix gently till well incorporated. Also add the chopped corriander or mint leaves and serve chilled with Chicken Dum Biryani, Peas Pulao etc.

Tips: In the same recipe, without Boondi, one can also add finely chopped cucumber, chopped onions and chopped carrots for more crunch. It depends on the preferences, people add grated cucumber, adn carrots wih finely diced onions. The choice is yours which ever way you like.
